LOST & Other Things I Am Powerless Before, Part I

With the sixth season of LOST now in full swing I have to say, I am obsessed with this show! Every season I make ridiculous promises to myself like, "I'll only watch new episodes, no repeats" or "I will not check the fan blogs everyday" but once again, my life is consumed with thoughts of LOST and its insane plot lines all day, everyday. Not only is this show the most enthralling television I've ever watched, but it also happens to be the most frustrating. As I watched last night's episode, I couldn't help thinking, "What the hell is going on right now!?" Trying to figure out what is happening in an episode of LOST is exactly like to trying to figure out why Brad Pitt insists on growing that beard; a confusing waste of time. Still, I find my time being monopolized by this show. When I'm not watching it, I'm talking about it or writing about it, and when I'm not doing any of those, I'm thinking about it. Last night, I even dreamt about it! At this point, the obsession is completely out of my hands. I am powerless before this all-consuming, ever frustrating show.

Another thing I am unable to resist: romantic dramas based on a sappy Nicholas Sparks novel. Exhibit A: The Notebook. This movie is not really all that great, yet I find myself watching it at least once a year. Exhibit B: (this one is a little bit embarrassing) A Walk to Remember. This is basically the most beautiful love story ever! I can't help but cry every time I watch it. Finally, Exhibit C: Dear John. When I first saw the preview for this movie, I knew it was going to be heartbreaking. Still, Rock and I chose to submit ourselves to the two hours of heart wrenching torture that was this movie. Rarely have I ever cried so much during a movie not entitled My Girl. No matter how much pain and sadness I know is going to occur, I cannot stop myself from seeing a Nicholas Sparks movie.

Check back in next week for Part II of this series.

  1. Buffy Summers would win without a doubt! ANNNND Lost is pretty much what I live for these days!

  2. I have to disagree with Maddie and say Edward would definitely win. Do you remember what he did to James in Book 1 and he also held his own in the fourth book against the vampire mafia. What's more, Edward is helped by the power of love which is consistently underestimated in epic battle between vampires and vampire slayers. Bottom line - Edward would beat the snot out of Buffy.
I also love Nicholas Sparks (books and movies). I think it's something about the sensitive, intelligent, charming, and loving men he writes about. Come to think of it, I wish one of Nicholas Sparks'characters would come to life and fall madly in love with me.

  3. I think the REAL debate here is Jacob vs. Edward. I mean C'MON! And because I do not watch this Buffy character (I know, I know, Jen...friends off, whatevs), I am going to go with the Edward vs. Jacob debate and choose: JACOB OMGDUHHH!!!!! Not even a debate. So there, settled.

HELLLSSS YA Modern Family. Love it. It's getting better and better.

A few winter breaks ago I did nothing but watch the first 3 episodes of Lost. Not only did I loose friends, sleep, and the respect of my family members, but it consumed my life as well. Since then, I've decided that just as an alcoholic can't have a drop of alcohol lets they relapse, I've decided that with Lost, it's all or nothing so until the series is over and I can buy the boxed set and have about 1 month where I don't need to see anyone, leave my room, or generally interact with the world, I've cut myself off from Lost. Once I know it's the end and there will be a time when I HAVE to stop due to lack of new episodes, then I will allow myself to taste the sweet, succulent juices and dark twisted plot-lines and tan, dirty chest of Jack--

oh, excuse me....I forgot this was a public forum.

    Ehhm.

  4. There will never be an Edward vs. Jacob debate on this blog. Because Edward doesn't deserve to be compared to Jacob. And Buffy would make Edward a chump. End of story.
