Spice It Up: Vocab & Music Edition

Two things on my mind today: 1. Words that don't get enough play these days and 2. The shuffle function on mp3 players.

Here are just a few words I think people should use more often. Why? Well, the real question you should probably ask yourself is, Why not? If you can think of other amazing words that don't get used often enough, feel free to comment! Enjoy:

  1. Outstanding. It's just a great word and I don't think people use it enough. What's that you say? You want me to tell you a story about how I rediscovered my love of this word? Alright, I guess I will. Last summer I tagged along during my now sister-in-law's bachelorette party and at one point during the night we came across a lovely group of older gentlemen who asked if she was getting married and when she answered affirmatively, they responded exuberantly by exclaiming, "OUTSTANDING!!!" Never in my life have I heard a word used so perfectly. Since that night, I have been doing my best to work "outstanding" into my vocabulary. It really is the best adjective for most situations. Don't believe me? Try it yourself! Right now. Do it.
  2. Shenanigans. Do I even need to explain how fantastic it is that a word like this even exists? I cannot believe the number of times a day people are provided with an opportunity to say "shenanigans" and they don't. You gotta capitalize on those opportunities people! It's exciting. Trust me, you'll feel better about yourself afterwards.
  3. Cornucopia. This may be my favorite word in the entire English language. I personally think there should be some sort of universally accepted reward given to people who can successfully work it into ordinary conversations. Maybe I will start this reward system.............yes, in that short time I decided I will. Blowpops for anyone who says cornucopia in my presence from now on!!!
  4. Awesome 90's Words That Should Mos Def Be Worked Back Into Everyday Vocabulary:
  • Bitchin, Phat, Fiiiine, Dope, Copacetic, the 411, and Bomb. The 90's were the best. No questions, no explanations necessary.

Now, I would like to take this opportunity to point out just how fantastic the shuffle function on my Microsoft Zune makes my life. The other day I was driving around town running some errands so I plugged in my mp3 converter and turned on the "Shuffle All" function. That was when the magic began. First up: Have You Ever by Brandy. Next: Beat the Devil's Tattoo by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Next: If I Could Turn Back Time by Cher. Next: Kind of a Girl by Tinted Windows. Next: Bliss by Mariah Carey. Next: Clean Getaway by Maria Taylor. I may or may not have omitted a few of the more embarrassing tracks that were mixed in there (Jessica Simpson maybe?). I got so overly excited when I went from feeling some serious pangs of nostalgia with Brandy to rocking out with some Black Rebel to belting out my favorite Cher tune! It was quite possibly the best car ride of my life. I realize that it sounds so simple and possibly a little bit lame, but I truly think "shuffle" is one of the greatest modern day inventions! I am pretty amazing, but I have to admit, I could never create a playlist as genius as my Zune's SmartDJ. I love it! And I just thought you all should know.

Fist Pump!

  2. Personally, I prefer the o.g. skittles. I'm a fan of the crazy cores (especially the strawberry lemonade flavor), but the originals always win in my book.
