Rant of the Week

July 25, 2009

Relationships, Jet Lag, and Happy Endings (not the awkward kind)

Okay to start off, I need to rant a little bit. I'm glad if you had a good day with your girlfriend and you miss her today, but I really just don't care. I don't need to see in your Facebook status that you miss her. It's just not something I care a whole lot about. Tell her if you miss her. Not everyone. Because we don't care. And on that note, when you're eighteen years old, here's a hint: your relationship probably won't last, so don't make it your whole life, and you won't want to kill yourself when you get dumped cough Bella cough. Make some friends and it will be a little easier.

On that happy note, let's turn to jet lag. For instance I have absolutely no memory of writing my last post, but apparently I did it. The next morning, I went to see HP6. Again I know I did this, but I have no memory of the event. I was basically in a walking coma for about five days. It was sweet. There aren't really lessons about this, just general thoughts about traveling I felt like sharing. But I think it would be good if someone made a pill for jet lag. It would just be nice to not have to deal with it. Someone should get on that.

Finally, I need to call out how endings used to be happy. They so aren't anymore. I used to feel good after watching a movie. Now I just have to focus on stopping the tears. For instance The Dark Night! WTF!!!!! That was so sad it wasn't even funny!!!!! Atonement! Unnecessary!!!!! I will say the same about The Notebook!!!!! Why couldn't it just end with the happy part? I'll tell you why. Because the people who write this shit like our pain. The like to see us cry. It's messed up. And finally the show that spurred this topic, Torchwood. WTF. Not only did you kill Ianto, but you had to have the only decent politician in the show kill himself and his whole family? And then Jack has to kill his own grandson? No. Just no. Too much death and way too much sadness for one mini series. I realize most of you don't watch Torchwood, and after this week, you should be happy. Ridiculous.

So basically, we don't care about every detail of your relationships, make a cure for jet lag, and write letters so maybe movies and shows will start having happy endings again.

You're welcome,
Rock
