Question: When exactly did it become acceptable to skip pants in favor of leggings? Answer: Never! I was under the impression that leggings were only acceptable for ballerinas and cross country runners. Recently however, it seems like everywhere I turn, some chick is skipping pants. I actually remember the exact moment that I first noticed this trend; I was sitting on my couch with a friend, watching The Hills and one of the main characters walked onto the screen wearing a dress so short we could almost see her ass cheeks and she had on black leggings. I felt compelled at that moment to turn to my friend and ask, "Is it ever really OK to skip pants?" It's as though everyone has lost their minds and somehow come to the completely delusional conclusion that wearing leggings negates any would-be slutiness. Tip: it doesn't. Here's my point: Leggings are not pants!!! I've agreed to be reasonable today, and so I must mention that I do see the fashionability (is fashionability a real word? Did I just make it up? Comment if you know.) of wearing leggings under a sweater dress with knee high boots. It can be cute, if you're the type of person who could pull that type of outfit off. Unfortunately, some people do not quite grasp the fact that not everyone can pull off certain fashion trends. This is a fact that most people have not yet realized about UGGs either. I sincerely feel that this will be one 80's trend that people will soon wish had never made a comeback. Next time you are considering wearing leggings without putting anything over them; Think Again. Please, for all of our sakes, Think Again.

Um, leggings are completely acceptable in certain situations. Like, say, when the girl in question looks good in them.

ReplyDeleteCheers to that! I 100% support the rave of the week, college is awesome! I partake in all the above activities pretty much on a weekly if not daily/ bi-daily basis. Moving on to the controversial legging conundrum… I myself am a conflicted legging owner. With certain outfits(i.e. tops that cover your butt)it can be tres chic, but I agree that not everyone should incorporate this trend into their wardrobe especially if they don't know what they're doing, leave that to the professionals, like myself. ;)If we wait just a bit longer for the fad to pass it will be out with the leggings, and back in with the hot pants, then we really have something to worry about!
